Blue Jays outright Colabello to Buffalo
Infielder/outfielder clears waivers, is set to compete for Triple-A first-base job
TORONTO -- Blue Jays infielder/outfielder Chris Colabello cleared waivers on Wednesday afternoon and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo.
Colabello will attend the Major League portion of Spring Training after getting designated for assignment on Feb. 4. He was removed from the 40-man roster to clear a spot for left-hander Jayson Aquino.
The 31-year-old Colabello likely will compete for playing time with Daric Barton at first base at Buffalo. He also has the ability to play right field, and he will provide versatile depth in the Minors.
Colabello spent parts of the past two years in Minnesota. He combined to hit .214 with 13 home runs, 56 RBIs and a .662 OPS in 365 at-bats. Toronto is expected to start the year with Justin Smoak and Danny Valencia at first base, with Edwin Encarnacion getting the majority of his time at designated hitter.
