Redmond clears waivers, outrighted to Triple-A

ST. PETERSBURG -- Blue Jays right-hander Todd Redmond cleared waivers on Sunday afternoon and has been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo.

Redmond was designated for assignment on April 16 when the club selected the contract of veteran left-hander Jeff Francis from Buffalo.

The 29-year-old Redmond appeared in two games for the Blue Jays this season and allowed eight earned runs over 4 1/3 innings. He was pitching in long relief, but is expected to join the starting rotation in Buffalo.

Redmond spent the entire 2014 season in Toronto and responded well with a 3.24 ERA in 42 appearances out of the bullpen. He was out of options on his contract and could not be sent to the Minors without first clearing waivers.
