No. 4 prospect Norris throws five scoreless

Left-hander Daniel Norris, rated the Blue Jays' No. 4 prospect by MLB.com, threw five scoreless innings in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday, helping Class A Advanced Dunedin defeat Daytona, 5-2, and sweep the twin bill.

Norris, also ranked No. 98 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, held Daytona to a hit and two walks. He struck out three batters and improved to 6-0.

Outfielder Dalton Pompey, the Blue Jays' No. 18 prospect, went 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases to lead Dunedin's offense. He is hitting .314 with 24 stolen bases.

Thursday marked the final day of the first half in the Florida State League. Norris enters the All-Star break leading the league with a 1.22 ERA. He has struck out 76 batters and walked 18 in 66 1/3 innings.

Norris has pitched so well that Thursday counted as something of a bounceback for him. He had allowed a combined five earned runs in his previous two starts, more than he had allowed in his other 10 starts combined. Thursday marked his sixth scoreless outing of the year.
