Blue Jays recall versatile Colabello

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays have recalled utility man Chris Colabello from Triple-A Buffalo, optioned infielder Jonathan Diaz to Buffalo and designated left-hander Jayson Aquino for assignment.

Colabello, 31, hit .337 with five home runs and 18 RBIs for the Bisons this season. He was named the International League Player of the Month for April, while also earning the Batter of the Week honour three times over the course of the month.

In parts of the last two seasons with the Twins, Colabello hit .214 with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs over 114 Major League games. He was selected off waivers by the Blue Jays on Dec. 8, 2014.

"He has been swinging it down there. He can hit," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said.

Colabello was in the lineup as the starting left fielder for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double. He'll likely start again Wednesday as well, with the club looking to give Michael Saunders a couple of days off from the field after he had fluid drained from his knee on Monday.

Diaz appeared in four games for the Blue Jays this season, going hitless in seven plate appearances.
