Blue Jays sign Wang

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed free agent RHP CHIEN-MING WANG and have designated IF ANDY LaROCHE for assignment.

WANG, 33, will make his Blue Jays debut this evening, starting against the Chicago White Sox. The 6-4, 225 lb. right-hander from Tainan City, Taiwan has spent the season with Scranton Wilkes-Barre in the International League (AAA) posting a 4-4 record with a 2.33 ERA in nine starts. Wang last appeared in the Majors in 2012 for the Washington Nationals. Over seven seasons with the New York Yankees and Washington, has a career 61-32 record with a 4.26 ERA in 130 games, 120 starts. He is one of four players from Taiwan to appear in a Major League game.

LaROCHE, 29, appeared in one game for Toronto, going hitless in four at bats. In 49 games for the Buffalo Bisons (AAA) this season the 6-1, 195 lb. right-handed hitter has batted .282 with seven home runs and 32 RBI.

Catcher HENRY BLANCO, who was designated for assignment on June 7, has been released from the roster.
