Source: Geren to be Dodgers' bench coach

LOS ANGELES -- Bob Geren, a former Major League manager who interviewed for the vacant Dodgers job, will be the bench coach for the club's new manager, Dave Roberts, according to a baseball source.

ESPN has reported Turner Ward will be the hitting coach, while FOX has reported current farm director Gabe Kapler, the other managerial finalist before Roberts was hired, will be on the coaching staff.

The club has not commented on Roberts' coaching staff, other than saying it will be announced within the next week. Pitching coach Rick Honeycutt is expected to return from former manager Don Mattingly's staff.

Geren managed the Oakland A's from 2007-11, linking him tightly with then-A's executive Farhan Zaidi, who is now the Dodgers' general manager. Geren has been the bench coach for the New York Mets.

Ward had been the hitting coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks and was the focal point of a brawl with the Dodgers when reliever J.P. Howell raced in from the bullpen and pinned Ward against a photo-well railing.
