Bobby Jones to be Presented Bronze Star as Part of Patriot Day Pre-Game Ceremonies on Thursday Night

Jones served 14 months in Vietnam from 1969-71

Arlington, TX-Texas Rangers bench coach Bobby Jones will receive a very special honor as part of tonight's Patriot Day pre-game ceremonies at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Rangers and Los Angeles Angels play the final game of their three-game series at 7:05 p.m.

Jones, who is in his 40th season as a player, minor league manager and coach in the Rangers organization, is a United States Army Veteran who served 14 months in Vietnam - from December 1969 to February 1971.

Then Corporal Jones was section chief in a 105 millimeter howitzer battery, providing fire support for American infantrymen.

Upon his return from Vietnam, Corporal Jones was handed the Bronze Star -a practice common at the time. He never had the medal officially presented to him in a formal ceremony from a senior military officer, as is customary.

Tonight, Army Corporal Robert Oliver Jones, will officially be presented the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement while engaged in conflict with an opposing foreign force. Col. R.J. Muraski, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division, headquartered in Dallas, will officially present the Bronze Star Medal with accompanying citation to Corporal Jones.

In addition, the Sheppard Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors and United States Airmen, joined by members of the Arlington Fire and Police Departments, will unfurl a large American flag in the outfield. The 531st United States Air Force Quintet will perform the National Anthem, which will be preceded by a Moment of Silence. The first 15,000 fans entering Globe Life Park this evening will receive a Fanatics Fan's Choice Camo T-Shirt.
