Bombers bits

• Alex Rodriguez (left hip surgery) had three hits in six simulated at-bats on Sunday at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla., according to Girardi.

• Eduardo Nunez (left oblique strain) played again for Class A Tampa, but its game at Dunedin was rained out after one inning.

"One inning at a time is not going to help us, but he is doing better," Girardi said.

• The Yankees finished June with an 11-16 record. Since 1993, they have recorded a worse record in June just once (2000: 10-15).

• On this date in 1977, the Yankees set a franchise record (since tied on June 21, 2005, vs. Tampa Bay) with four home runs in a single inning in an 11-5 win at Toronto. Cliff Johnson hit two homers in the eighth inning, while Thurman Munson and Lou Piniella also went deep at Exhibition Stadium.
