"I tried for a couple of innings to shake it off," Miller said. "But I knew it probably wasn't going to be smart to stay in there."

To fill Miller's spot on the roster, the Rays summoned right-hander Ryan Weber from Triple-A Durham.

Kevin Kiermaier, meanwhile, is also hobbled after fouling a ball off his right foot. Kiermaier believes he'll play on Monday when the team gets to Chicago.

Kiermaier injured himself when he hit in the eighth and batted against Boston reliever Carson Smith. After fouling the ball off his foot, he drew a walk and he stayed in the game but remained in pain.

"I'll be OK," Kiermaier said. "I couldn't have squared that up any more. ... That hurt. Even going on defense. Definitely moving gingerly for the rest of the game. I'll probably be sore tomorrow."

Kiermaier said he didn't need X-rays.
