Miller held out with stiff abdominal muscle

Infielder expects to be back in the lineup Wednesday afternoon

CLEVELAN -- Add Brad Miller's name to the list of the walking wounded, but the Rays are hopeful their second baseman won't be on the list for long.
"Not overly concerned right now," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "This is probably some of the effect of playing 19 straight ballgames in a row. The guys are banged up a little bit."
Miller "tweaked" his lower abdominal muscle in his final at-bat in the Rays' 8-7 loss to the Indians when he ran to first base.
"Felt fine last night," said Miller, who was not in Tuesday night's starting lineup. "Finished the play, and then went out and played the field. Thought I'd be alright. This morning I woke up, it was pretty stiff. Came in, did all my treatment, and just couldn't go. ... It's not the groin, it's the lower ab. Not the oblique. Not a hernia, but in that area."
Miller said he's hoping to be back in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon's game.
"I'm hoping I wake up tomorrow and I feel better. ... You never want to not be in there," Miller said. "So it does [stink]."
If Miller is in the lineup on Wednesday, he won't be using the Old Hickory pink bat he's favored of late.
"Not a big deal," Miller said. "I'll use a different one. Same model. Different color, obviously."
Most Major League hitters take a pink bat to the plate on Mother's Day. But Miller surprised everybody by using the pink bat again in the Rays' 8-7 loss to the Indians Monday night.
"I didn't really think anything of it," Miller said. "I was just going to use it. It felt good."
Miller went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Sunday using the pink bat, but then came through with a 3-for-4 game Monday night.
Duffy off until Friday
(recovering from Achilles surgery) tested his left heel on Tuesday and the Rays have decided that he will not play in a game for Class A Advanced Charlotte on Wednesday as hoped. Instead, the Rays will have him return to Tropicana Field where he will be evaluated by head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield on Friday.
"Hopefully he comes in Friday and feels pretty good and he plays in a Saturday game [for Charlotte]," Cash said.
