Red Sox strengthen showing on AL ballot

Bradley moves from 3rd to 2nd in outfield; Betts up to 5th

June 14th, 2016

BOSTON -- Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. continues to improve his position to make the All-Star team and he could have company from his own outfield.
While Bradley moved from third to second place as the latest round of American League balloting was released on Tuesday, Mookie Betts pulled into fifth place.
Bradley has 1,322,929 votes and trails only the Angels' Mike Trout among AL outfielders. Betts has 1,069,912 votes and is within striking distance of the Royals' Lorenzo Cain (1,146,885) for the third spot.

Meanwhile, it seems all but certain that David Ortiz will be the AL's designated hitter in his final All-Star Game. Ortiz has 2,015,043 votes for a big lead over current runner-up, the Royals' Kendrys Morales (739,284 votes). This would be Ortiz's 10th All-Star appearance and first since 2013.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts has developed into one of the best all-around players in the game and the voters are noticing. Bogaerts has 1,541,180 votes and has the lead over the Kansas City's Alcides Escobar (958,750).
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is also off to a strong start and ranks fourth at his position with 685,853 votes. Houston's Jose Altuve is the leader with 1,230,619 votes.
Hanley Ramirez has made a nice transition to first base this season, and he is fourth at that position with 532,727 votes. Eric Hosmer of the defending World Series champions Royals is the current leader with 1,614,016 votes.
