CINCINNATI -- In the sixth inning in Friday's 5-4 win against the Brewers, a swing from Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips ended with him grabbing at his right leg.
In the bottom half of the inning, it was rookie José Peraza who trotted out to second base, not Phillips, who has a strained right calf.
"It's a day-to-day injury," Reds' manager Bryan Price said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. Really happy it's not more significant than that, and we'll just do the rehab and the treatment and see where he is tomorrow."
Phillips , who went 1-for-3, was examined by Dr. Timothy Kremchek, who did not seem to believe the injury to be too serious.
"If Dr. Kremchek felt it was more significant, he would probably suggest an MRI," Price said. "But if he feels like it's a strain, that's something that will be a day-to-day thing, and we'll see how he bounces back from that."
Phillips is hitting .259, and hasn't hit a home run since May 7, a span of 219 at-bats.
It's also his second injury in the past week. Last Friday, he took a pitch off his left hand against the Marlins, which resulted in a fracture that he's been playing through.
