DENVER -- Bothered by a sore left ankle that stemmed from crashing into a wall on Sunday, Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was forced to exit Monday's 11-8 win over the Rockies in the seventh inning.
Phillips, who rarely likes to leave games for injuries, was replaced by pinch-hitter Ivan De Jesus Jr. after he went 1-for-3 with an infield single while clearly not 100 percent running. X-rays taken after his departure were negative.
"It just wasn't getting any better," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It was gradually a little bit more sore. He wanted to play and wanted to stick it out. As the game progressed, it just didn't make sense. We'll see how he is [Tuesday]. He's a little banged up right now."

During Sunday's loss at Milwaukee, Phillips made a sliding catch in on a Hernan Perez foul pop. He slid to make the play, but jammed his ankle into the wall under the padding.
Phillips spent several moments being looked over in that game before deciding he could continue. He received treatment before Monday's game.
"I didn't want to stay in there and there might be a play that costs us the game, so I just thought it was a good idea," Phillips said.
Phillips hoped to try again to play Tuesday. He is the midst of a five-game hitting streak and batting .256/.295/.320 in 47 games with six home runs and 23 RBIs.
"I didn't really take that many ground balls because I didn't want to mess it up more than it was," Phillips said. "The thing is, I hit off my front toe, that's what gets my thing going and it's kind of hard for me to do that. I've been feeling pretty good lately and it always [stinks] when you start feeling good and then you're injured. We'll see what happens [Tuesday]."
