Braves Claim Pitcher Andrew McKirahan off Waivers

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Atlanta Braves today claimed left-handed pitcher Andrew McKirahan off waivers from the Miami Marlins. He will wear uniform number 52 and is expected to be in Braves camp on Thursday (April 2).

McKirahan, 25, was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 21st round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Texas. He spent the first four years of his professional career in the Cubs organization and was chosen by the Marlins in the Rule 5 Draft last December.

A native of Georgetown, Texas, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound McKirahan posted 10 saves and a 2.08 ERA in 44 games (all in relief) last season between Daytona (A) and Tennessee (AA). In four minor league seasons, he has appeared in 89 games as a reliever and owns a 5-6 record with a 2.16 ERA. McKirahan has recorded 128 strikeouts and only 35 walks allowed in 120.2 innings pitched.

Atlanta now has 36 active players remaining in its Major League camp. The Braves begin the 2015 campaign on Monday, April 6, at Miami (4:10 p.m., SportSouth).
