Braves Conclude 2012 First-Year Player Draft

The Atlanta Braves completed the 2012 First-Year Player Draft today by selecting 25 players in addition to the 15 selections from the first two days of the draft. Overall, the 40 draftees included 17 pitchers (14 right-handed, three left-handed), 10 outfielders, nine infielders and four catchers. Lucas Sims, a right-handed pitcher, was Atlanta’s first-round pick (21st selection overall) and was one of 15 high school players chosen Braves. The remaining 25 players drafted were chosen out of college.

“We felt like our scouts did a nice job identifying talent in this draft.” said Tony DeMacio, the Club’s director of scouting. “We feel like we have some Major League players in this group.”
