ATLANTA -- The Braves will re-evaluate shortstop Erick Aybar on Saturday to determine how long he might be sidelined with a bruised right foot. Aybar exited Friday night's 4-2 win over the Marlins after getting hit on the right instep by Adam Conley's 94-mph fastball. X-rays were negative, but Braves manager Brian Snitker said the team has not yet determined when the shortstop might return to action.
"We'll probably know more tomorrow," Snitker said. "It's one of those things you've got to sleep on."
Aybar remained on the ground after Conley's 94 mph fastball struck him in the right instep with one out in the fourth inning. The veteran shortstop remained in the game, but he showed some more discomfort as he advanced to second base on Williams Perez's sacrifice bunt.
Daniel Castro replaced Aybar as the Braves' shortstop when the top of the fifth began.
Aybar has had a frustration-filled season that entered odd territory last week, when he missed a game in Pittsburgh because a chicken bone was lodged in his throat. The 32-year-old former All-Star entered Friday with the lowest OPS (.432) among all qualified Major Leaguers and the second-worst defensive fWAR (-3.2) among all qualified shortstops.
