ATLANTA -- The Braves placed infielder Gordon Beckham on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday morning with a left hamstring strain and selected the contract of infielder Brandon Snyder from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Beckham sustained the injury during Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Giants while trying to beat out a ground ball in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Braves were already playing a position player short during the game.
This is the second time this season Beckham has landed on the disabled list with this injury. The Atlanta infielder also suffered a left hamstring strain against the Marlins on April 16, resulting in a stint on the disabled list from April 17-May 9 that cost him 18 games.
Beckham has appeared in 31 games this year, making starts at second base, third base and shortstop. He is batting .284 with a .382 on-base percentage, two home runs and 16 RBIs. Since returning from his injury on May 10, the infielder was batting .286 with six doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs in 21 games.
Snyder, 29, was hitting .325 with two home runs and 20 RBIs in 34 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. A first-round pick by the Orioles in 2005, he has hit .243 with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 83 career big league games with Baltimore, Texas and Boston.
"It was almost like getting called up for the first time," Snyder said. "The way it went down was completely unexpected. I knew I was playing well and doing the right things, but I kind of blocked that out of my mind. I was just trying to help Gwinnett and do my thing every day. And to get the call was extremely special."
