PHILADELPHIA -- Fresh off their first win at Citizens Bank Park of the season to begin the twin bill, the Braves continued to exorcise their demons against the Phillies with a 5-2 win and doubleheader sweep on Wednesday.
"It was a good day overall because we needed that because we've been struggling here so bad all year," Braves manager Brian Snitker said of Atlanta's 0-7 start in Philadelphia before a pair of wins Wednesday got them off the schneid. "It's nice to leave here with a couple wins."
Julio Teheran's sharp outing held the Phillies at bay. The right-hander allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and holding the Phillies to five hits and finding much more success against them than his previous two starts when he surrendered 13 runs across 9 2/3 innings of work. Teheran worked with catcher David Freitas, who was making his Major League debut after being promoted Wednesday morning, for the first time.
"He did a really good job with Julio," Snitker said. "To come in and just kind of be thrown in ... they kind of were clicking, I don't remember Julio shaking him off or anything or calling him out."

Teheran said it took the battery (who had never worked with each other previously) two innings before they truly began to mesh.
"The rest of the game we were good," Teheran said. "We were on the same page, he kind of got to know me and what I want, and when I shook he went straight to the pitch that I wanted. That's important."
Ender Inciarte continued a nearly unthinkable afternoon, going 3-for-5 at the plate in Game 2 and a combined 8-for-10 with seven singles and a triple in the doubleheader as a whole. Inciarte came one hit shy of tying the MLB record for most hits in a doubleheader held by eight players and most recently accomplished by the Angels' Lee Thomas on Sept. 5, 1961.

Despite being tagged with the loss, Phillies starter Mark Leiter turned in another solid performance since flipping from the team's long reliever to a fifth starter. The 26-year-old allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings, dropping his ERA to 3.88 since the switch. He could stay in the rotation the remainder of the season with Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff suffering an injury (nerve irritation in right hand) in Game 1.
"There's a lot of things that are out of your control," Leiter said, about remaining in the rotation. "You just try to go out there whenever you're given the ball and do your best in whatever role you're in."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Welcome to The Show: Called up as a replacement for the recently injured Tyler Flowers, Freitas, 28, put the Braves ahead in the fourth with a first-pitch RBI double to the left-center-field gap, his first Major League hit and RBI.

Brave relief: A dicey eighth inning for Atlanta's bullpen nearly blew its slim two-run lead. Reliever Jose Ramirez walked the bases loaded putting the go-ahead run on first. But with two down, Ramirez was bailed out by Arodys Vizcaino, who struck out Cameron Rupp swinging to end the threat. Vizcaino stayed in to record his ninth save.

"Fortunately Vizcaino had a lot of rest that he could come in and do one-plus," Snitker said.

He's rode a lot of buses, he's grinded, he's traveled, dragged his family all over the country, his little boy I'm sure recognized, he's old enough to know that was dad out there. Phillies rookie Rhys Hoskins extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the third inning. Elias Sports Bureau said Hoskins is the first Phillies player to have a 12-game hitting streak in the first month of his career since Hall of Fame outfielder Chuck Klein (13 games) in 1928.

Braves: Atlanta heads to the Windy City to face the Cubs -- who swept the Braves earlier this season -- for four games beginning Thursday at 8:05 p.m. ET. Sean Newcomb (2-7, 4.36 ERA) starts for Atlanta for the second time against Chicago this year. Last time, he allowed five earned in 5 1/3 innings.
Phillies: The Phillies open a four-game series Thursday at 7:10 p.m. ET against the Marlins at Marlins Park in Miami. It pits two of the hottest home run hitters in baseball with Hoskins playing against the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton. Phillies right-hander Ben Lively (1-5, 4.36 ERA) faces Marlins right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne (0-1, 3.70 ERA) in the series opener.
