Teheran to start SunTrust Park opener

April 11th, 2017

MIAMI -- After the Braves altered their starting rotation to account for this week's two scheduled off-days, received the honor of pitching Friday night's home opener, which will also be the first big league game played at SunTrust Park. First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m. ET.
"It's going to be a great honor to open the stadium," Teheran said. "I'm going to get emotional. There's going to be a lot of people there. The fans are going to be all excited. I'll just try to control that and pitch my game."
To account for this week's two off-days, the Braves have opted to essentially go with a four-man rotation until Mike Foltynewicz is needed again to start the April 18 game against the Nationals. Foltynewicz, who made his only start thus far on Friday in Pittsburgh, will be available out of the bullpen during this week's set in Miami.

The Braves had the option to send R.A. Dickey to the mound with an extra day of rest on Friday, but they instead opted to give the honor to Teheran, who will be pitching on regular rest. After Dickey starts Saturday's game, and will be lined up to pitch on regular rest during the two games that follow.
"We're just going to try to keep as many of them regular and on time," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "This has been hard to maneuver with all of these off-days."
