Braves' Allard seeks first win with Mississippi

April 28th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Rhys Hoskins (Phillies' No. 13), Lehigh Valley at Toledo (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Hoskins homered in his second straight game on Thursday, going 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 24-year-old first baseman extended his hitting streak to eight games in the process, during which he's improved his average from .297 to .348, and he's now gone deep six times in 20 games.

Pitcher to watch: Kolby Allard (Braves No. 3), Mississippi vs. Tennessee (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Despite making the jump directly from the Class A level, Allard, No. 48 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, has been excellent in his four starts for Double-A Mississippi, posting a 1.29 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP in 21 innings. He's completed at least five innings in each turn, too, including five scoreless in his most recent outing, though the 19-year-old lefty still seeks his first Double-A win.

Duel of the day: (Reds' No. 7) vs. (Brewers' No. 13), Pensacola vs. Biloxi (7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Castillo has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start for Double-A Pensacola, working at least six innings in three of those outings. Acquired from Miami during the offseason in the Dan Straily trade, Castillo, 24, is 1-0 with a 2.22 ERA and a 21-to-3 strikeout-walk ratio in 24 1/3 innings for Double-A Pensacola.

Lopez, meanwhile, is fresh off of his best start of the season after he allowed just one earned run on one hit in six innings on April 23. The 24-year-old righty struggled last season after breaking out in 2015, but he's righted the ship this year in his return to Biloxi, where he's posted a 2.25 ERA with 20 strikeouts and just three walks in 20 innings (four starts).
