Pipeline Preview: Albies ready to extend hitting streak

April 14th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Ozzie Albies (Braves' No. 1), Gwinnett vs. Durham (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Albies recorded his second straight two-hit game on Thursday, going 2-for-3 with his third double of the season and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot for Triple-A Gwinnett. Ranked as MLBPipeline.com's No. 8 overall prospect, the 20-year-old Albies went 0-for-5 in his season debut but has since collected hits in seven straight contests.

Pitcher to watch: Tyler Beede (Giants' No. 1), Sacramento at Salt Lake (8:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Beede, ranked 84th on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, tossed six innings of one-run ball to record the win last week in his Triple-A Sacramento debut. The 23-year-old right-hander scattered five hits, struck out three and generated seven ground-ball outs. The outing was a continuation of a strong Spring Training that saw Beede post a 2.03 ERA across six appearances (two starts).

Duel of the day: (Rangers' No. 2) vs. Austin Gomber (Cardinals' No. 14), Frisco at Springfield (8:10 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Mendez, 22, saw his prospect stock explode in 2016, as he pitched at three Minor League levels en route to a big league callup in September. This year the No. 53 overall prospect is back at Double-A Frisco, where he surrendered two earned runs in five innings against Springfield to pick up the win in his season debut.

Gomber, on the other hand, scuffled in his season debut against Frisco, yielding five runs (four earned) on five hits before departing after just 2/3 innings. The 6-foot-5 lefty will take a second crack at the Rough Riders' offense on Friday night.
