NEW YORK -- The Braves will give right-hander Ryan Weber his second start of the season in Wednesday night's series finale against the Mets at Citi Field, manager Brian Snitker announced on Monday.
Weber has pitched primarily out of the bullpen this season, both with the Braves and at Triple-A Gwinnett, so the Braves won't expect him to go deep in the game. He hasn't pitched more than five innings in any game and hasn't thrown more than 57 pitches in any of his 15 big league appearances this year.
"He'll get us in flight, and we'll see where it goes from there," Snitker said.
The Braves were short a starter when they lost both Williams Perez and Mike Foltynewicz to injuries. Josh Collmenter, acquired in a deal with the Cubs, filled one of the open spots when he started on Saturday against the Nationals.
Collmenter was the 16th starter the Braves have used this season, the most in the Major Leagues and the most the Braves have used in any season since moving to Atlanta.
Weber earned Wednesday's start with his strong 4 2/3-inning relief performance on Friday against the Nationals. Weber allowed just one run on two hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.
Weber's only Major League start this season came in Washington on Sept. 5, when he allowed five runs over three innings in a 6-4 loss. He was 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA in five September starts last year.
