Braves working to streamline SunTrust traffic plan

January 19th, 2017

ATLANTA -- While updating their SunTrust Park transportation plans on Thursday morning, the Braves revealed additional parking options, team-operated shuttle plans and the benefits of partnerships that have been established with Uber and Waze.
"With three months to go until Opening Day, we have already secured significantly more parking than we had, for a ballpark that is much smaller," Braves president of development Mike Plant said. "Additionally, we have already analyzed and forecasted traffic flow through every corridor entering our development. While we know this plan will continue to evolve, we couldn't be more pleased with where we are at this time."

A portion of the Cobb County Transportation Management Plan calls for uniformed officers to be placed at approximately 30 intersections around the new ballpark to support the flow of traffic to and from the 14 primary points of access to the new stadium and The Battery Atlanta -- an adjoining mixed-use development that will include various dining, entertainment and retail options.
Access enhancements will include the presence of contraflow lanes, which will reverse the traffic flow of designated lanes before and after games. There will also be a dedicated exit lane from I-285 that will funnel into The Battery Atlanta.
The Braves announced they will have the opportunity to offer more than 11,000 parking spaces that will be owned or leased by the organization. This would be 2,500 more spaces than were available at Turner Field, which possessed 8,000 more seats than the cozier SunTrust Park will include.
Braves A-List members can begin purchasing season-parking passes immediately. Single-game parking options will be made available March 10, when single-game tickets go on sale.
A private shuttle service will serve both the managed parking lots and key points of interest in metro Atlanta. Specific routes will be announced before Opening Day.
Waze has collaborated with the Braves and Cobb County to share data and real-time traffic updates with fans and commuters via a SunTrust Park app that will be constructed by Major League Baseball Advanced Media. Users will have the option to be provided directions directly to their assigned parking lot.
SunTrust Park will also feature a designated drop-off and pickup zone reserved for those who use Uber to travel to and from the ballpark for games. The area will be located near the stadium's main gates.
Property owners around the stadium interested in providing parking are encouraged to contact Cobb County to apply for a permit.
