MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers' Sept. 1 "callups" will include a pair of players who are already with the team. Left-hander Brent Suter and catcher Andrew Susac are expected to be activated from the disabled list on Friday when active rosters expand from 25 to 40.
The Brewers are likely to make only a limited number of roster additions that day, then add more players after the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox finish their postseason run.
Suter and Susac will report to Class A Wisconsin on Wednesday for brief rehabilitation assignments. Suter is scheduled to pitch Wednesday night against Beloit, and Susac will play Wednesday and Thursday before returning to Miller Park.
Susac will serve as a third catcher, but Brewers manager Craig Counsell was mum on Suter's role once he rejoins the Brewers, saying only that "he will be a member of our out-getting staff." The team needs a fifth starter on Saturday against the Nationals, but that assignment appears pegged for another September callup, Brandon Woodruff. He was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Aug. 20 because the Brewers needed only four starters for the rest of the month, pitched for the Sky Sox on Aug. 24, then resurfaced Monday -- when the Sky Sox were rained out in Round Rock, Texas -- at Double-A Biloxi to throw a simulated game, according to the Sun Herald newspaper.
That puts Woodruff on schedule to pitch on Saturday for the Brewers.
Last call
• The Brewers' other injured catcher, Jett Bandy, has yet to hit on the field as he works his way back from a fractured rib. But he's still expected to see action at some point in September, Counsell said.

• Brewers GM David Stearns had no update Tuesday on the Minor Leaguer who suffered a cardiac event when he was hit by a pitch Saturday at Rookie-level Arizona. Julio Mendez was in critical but stable condition as of Sunday morning.
"At this point, to respect Julio's privacy, we do not have any updates to provide," Stearns said. "Once we have additional info, we will certainly share it."
