Crew acquires Drake from O's; Magnifico dealt

Goforth designated for assignment

April 14th, 2017

CINCINNATI -- The Brewers traded right-hander to the Orioles on Thursday night, and in a separate move, the club acquired right-hander from Baltimore.
Magnifico was traded to the O's in exchange for International Signing Bonus Slot No. 15, while Drake was acquired for a player to be named or cash.
To make room for Drake, right-hander was designated for assignment.
Drake, 30, was originally a 43rd-round pick out of Navy in 2008 and made his big league debut in May '15. He pitched in three games for Baltimore this season (0-0, 8.10 ERA) and has made 30 appearances in his career (1-0, 3.89).
He was the Orioles' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2015 after compiling a 0.82 ERA in 42 appearances and going 23-for-23 in save situations. Drake was designated for assignment by the O's on Wednesday.
Magnifico was designated for assignment Sunday. The Brewers needed a fresh arm for their bullpen, but they could not promote Magnifico because of a rule preventing a 40-man roster player from being promoted in the first 10 days of the season without a corresponding injury elsewhere. So they instead added Goforth to the 40-man roster in his place.
