LOS ANGELES -- While one Brewers reliever was on his way to rejoining the team Friday after a stint on the disabled list, another hit a potentially troubling roadblock.
Chris Capuano experienced "a little bit of discomfort" in his left elbow, according to manager Craig Counsell, during a 27-pitch simulated game at Dodger Stadium. The session that was to be his final step before a Minor League rehabilitation assignment, but for the moment, Capuano's comeback is on hold.
"We're going to have to reassess how we're going to progress, really," Counsell said. "[The next step] is not going to be a rehab assignment. We'll regroup on that and figure out what we're going to do next."
It's notable that Capuano was able to complete his allotment of pitches. The Brewers planned to consult with head physician William Raasch before determining a next step.
Capuano has twice undergone Tommy John surgery, most recently in 2008 during his first stint with the Brewers. But he has also experienced and overcome bouts of soreness like the one he has been experiencing of late.
Another reliever, Michael Blazek, was en route to Dodger Stadium from Triple-A Colorado Springs as the Brewers took batting practice Friday. On the DL since June 1 with a right elbow impingement, Blazek made a second appearance for Colorado Springs on Thursday and surrendered two runs on two groundball hits.
"All reports were it was improved and better and he felt good about it," Counsell said. "He's going to rejoin us, and then we'll have to make a decision about when to activate him. There's going to be a decision there, and that's part of having healthy guys. Healthy guys are a good thing."
The last reliever to come off the DL, Corey Knebel, had two days off before the Brewers reinstated him to the active roster.
