Vogt claimed off waivers by Brewers

June 25th, 2017

CHICAGO -- Catcher has been claimed off waivers by the Brewers, affording the longtime A's fan favorite a spot in a postseason race.
Vogt, designated for assignment by Oakland in an unexpected move Thursday, joins former A's infielder in Milwaukee's hunt for a playoff berth. The Brewers entered the day half-game up on the Cubs in the National League Central.
Vogt, 32, had been with the A's since 2013, earning All-Star honors in each of the previous two seasons. But he was scuffling at the plate this year, hitting just .217 with four home runs in 54 games, and the A's are in the process of getting younger.
With Vogt out of the mix, rookie is eyeing an extended opportunity on the big league stage. Maxwell is 7-for-12 since his latest promotion.
