Brewers Community Foundation to celebrate “United Way Day” tonight at Miller Park

MILWAUKEE – The Brewers Community Foundation (BCF) and the Milwaukee Brewers will celebrate “United Way Day” tonight at Miller Park.  Over 200 United Way volunteers along with Mary Lou Young, President and CEO of the United Way, will be in attendance for the game. 

The evening’s activities include proceeds from the 50/50 Raffle being designated to support the “Joe Lubar Emergency Relief Fund” at United Way.

Joe Lubar is the son of David and Madeleine Lubar.  Joe passed away in February of 2011 following a skiing accident on the Colorado slopes of Copper Mountain.  Following his death, his family decided to honor his memory by giving back to those in need by setting up the Joe Lubar Emergency Relief Fund through the United Way of Greater Milwaukee.  Funds raised will be distributed on a case-by-case basis for individuals who face unbudgeted, urgent situations.

“When we learned that Mark and Debbie Attanasio wanted to do this for Joe and our family, we were very touched,” Madeleine Lubar said. “We are very grateful for the efforts of the Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation to make this a special day in honoring Joe’s memory.”

David Lubar is a member of the Brewers’ ownership group and president of Lubar & Co., an investment firm founded by his father, Sheldon Lubar.  The Lubar family has long been involved with the United Way and in 2014, David will chair the United Way Board.

In addition to the donation of funds tomorrow, Patrick Lubar, Joe’s brother, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Brewers-Phillies game.
