MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers are optimistic they'll seal a deal with first-round Draft pick Keston Hiura in the coming days, and three other picks within the first five rounds are signing, too.
Asked whether the Brewers would introduce Hiura before Thursday's homestand finale, general manager David Stearns said, "There's a chance. We try to let those guys meet [the media]. They get a chance to come and take [batting practice]. He's very well spoken, really enjoys baseball and I think is eager to get his pro career started."
The Brewers drafted Hiura ninth overall from the University of California-Irvine knowing he has a right elbow injury that could require Tommy John surgery. As of Monday, Stearns was not ready to say whether the Brewers' medical team had made a decision on that front.

"When we get to the point when he's officially a Brewer, we'll be able to discuss that more completely," Stearns said.
The ninth overall pick carries an assigned value of $4.57 million, part of the Brewers' pool of $10,447,700 to spend on their selections through the 10th round before incurring penalties.
Also on Monday, Brewers second-rounder Caden Lemons, a high-school right-hander from Alabama drafted 46th overall, told his hometown newspaper, the Vestavia Voice, that he had agreed to terms of a signing bonus, pending a physical exam. That means Lemons will forgo a scholarship offer from Ole Miss.
"We reached a deal where both sides were happy and everyone's needs were met," Lemons told the newspaper, saying he expects to begin his pro career in the Rookie-level Arizona League.
The newspaper did not report Lemons' signing bonus. That pick was assigned a value of $1,493,500.
In addition to those pending agreements, MLB.com's Jim Callis reported that the Brewers had already signed fourth-round pick Brendan Murphy, a high-school left-hander from Illinois, for $500,000 (pick value was $468,600) and fifth-round pick Nick Egnatuk, a high-school third baseman from New Jersey, also for $500,000. That was above the slot value of $349,900 assigned the 144th overall pick. The Brewers got a late look at Egnatuk's raw power when he attended the team's pre-Draft workout at Miller Park.
The Brewers did not formally announce either of those agreements, but they did announce their first three Draft deals on Monday. Right-hander Jayson Rose (eighth round), third baseman Dallas Carroll (ninth round) and right-hander Roberto Delgado (28th round) all were on Rookie-level Helena's Opening Day roster.
