MILWAUKEE -- Brewers right fielder Domingo Santana is day to day with right elbow soreness and out of the lineup for the second consecutive day, manager Craig Counsell said before Thursday's game against the Mets.
Milwaukee planned to give Santana back-to-back off-days on Wednesday and Thursday to rest. Santana returned from a stint on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness last weekend in Philadelphia.
"It's day to day right now, that's how we're treating it," Counsell said. "We kind of decided yesterday we were going to give him two days, maybe, to see where we're at. He improved today, so we'll see."
Santana is batting .234 with a .347 on-base percentage and four home runs in 40 games this season. The 23-year-old had a strong return to the lineup against the Phillies, throwing out a runner at home in his first game back Friday and smacking the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning of Saturday's 6-3 win.

• Reliever Michael Blazek (right elbow impingement) threw a bullpen session Thursday that went well, according to Counsell, and reliever Chris Capuano (left elbow soreness) is slated for a bullpen of his own this weekend. Both are expected to go on rehab assignments, though Counsell anticipates they will not be lengthy.
• Brewers Rule 5 Draft selection Zack Jones (right shoulder strain) began his rehab assignment to Class A Advanced Brevard County on Wednesday, throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The team has scouts watching Jones, who is currently on the 60-day DL. Milwaukee has 30 days to either activate him or offer him back to the Twins.
