ST. LOUIS -- It is proving a painful finish for Brewers first baseman , who fouled another pitch off his already bruised right foot in the eighth inning of Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium and was forced to leave the game.
X-rays were negative following the fourth time in September that Thames fouled a pitch off that foot, and the second time in four days. He was in so much discomfort when he previously did it Wednesday against the Reds that he could barely walk after the game and had to sit out Thursday's home finale. But Thames indicated Saturday night that he aimed to play in Sunday's season finale.
"It's 162," Thames said. "I want to be in there."
Thames was hitless Saturday, but he did walk to spark a five-run rally in the top of the third inning, and he is hitting .328 (19-for-58) with five doubles and three home runs in September. Thames and enter Sunday tied for the team lead with 31 home runs, with right behind them with 30.
