Brewers honor Sedar's 25 years with the club

DENVER -- The Brewers surprised third-base coach Ed Sedar during a team party Thursday with a touching (and not safe for work, naturally) video tribute recognizing his 25 years and counting with the organization.
Commissioner Emeritus Bud Selig, Hall of Famer Robin Yount, radio voice Bob Uecker, owner Mark Attanasio and current and former Brewers including Dale Sveum, Jeff Cirillo, , , CC Sabathia, Trevor Hoffman and were among the many friends who recorded video messages for Sedar, the former Minor League outfielder whose coaching career began with the Brewers in 1992. Brewers traveling secretary Dan Larrea pulled it together in just a few days.
Even Lions receiver Anquan Boldin made an appearance. Long story.
"Pretty touching," Sedar said. "I was able to hold it back. I'm glad there were some funny things."
Over the years, he's served as the Brewers' Minor League baserunning and outfield coordinator, has managed rookie league affiliates and coached first and third base in the big leagues. He has been on the Major League coaching staff for the past 10 seasons under three different managers, the last six as third base coach.
How long has Sedar been a Brewer? When he showed up to throw batting practice in Spring Training for the first time, Paul Molitor was Milwaukee's designated hitter and Yount still had two years left in his playing career.
Asked about the best part of his job for the past quarter century, Sedar said, "The relationships you with everybody. The players, coaches, front office, training staff, media. I think it's cool because we're all one family, and yeah, sometimes things aren't going well, but it's our job to make it … enjoyable to come to the park."
How about 25 more years?
"That means I would be 80 throwing batting practice," Sedar said. "I would probably have another new knee and a probably a couple new hips as I throw Group 1."
The Brewers have not yet announced whether the coaching staff would return intact for 2017. Several coaches said they had yet to be informed about their status.
