PITTSBURGH -- Brewers right-hander Junior Guerra is continuing to work his way back to big league action. On Saturday, he took a step forward with Class A Wisconsin.
Guerra, who is on the disabled list with a right calf strain, made his only start of the season on Opening Day vs. the Rockies. He is currently with the Timber Rattlers and faced live hitters on Saturday.
"Junior threw a simulated game to live hitters," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "Yesterday he threw basically two innings of work, and everything went really well. He's going to stay up there today and do his normal workout program up there, and then he's scheduled to do another live batting practice on Wednesday in Milwaukee."
Guerra suffered the calf injury while running out a bunt during his April 3 start. The hope is for Guerra to rejoin the Brewers' rotation before the end of May.

"All signs have been good. He's responded very well," Counsell stated. "Wednesday will be the next step, and we'll ramp up some of the on-field running activities this week, as well."
Guerra, who was Brewers general manager David Stearns' first acquisition in October 2015, was a revelation in Milwaukee last season. He registered an impressive 2.81 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, while striking out 100 and walking 43 over 121 2/3 innings.
