Gomez speeding, literally, toward return from DL

Outfielder maxes out on treadmill in recovery from hamstring strain

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is making major progress in his comeback from a right hamstring strain, said manager Ron Roenicke, who told reporters that Gomez ran the treadmill at Miller Park this week on its maximum speed. Which prompted a question for Gomez: What is the maximum speed of the treadmill at Miller Park?

"Thirteen," he said with a smile.

That's 13 mph, for the gym-challenged out there. It translates to about a four-and-a-half-minute mile, though Gomez didn't maintain maximum speed that long.

"They said it looked like a jog for him," Roenicke said, "so he's coming along really well. Hopefully, it'll be those 15 days or just a couple added onto that, but it should be close."

Gomez is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list beginning May 1. He took batting practice with the rest of the team on Friday but still has to perform running drills on the field before he's cleared to play.
