MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers promoted Eduardo Brizuela to assistant farm director and reassigned former first-base coach Mike Guerrero on Wednesday while announcing their Minor League coaching staffs for 2016.
Brizuela joined the team as an advance scouting intern in 2009 after graduating from Webber International University with a business management degree, and he quickly moved up Milwaukee's front office ranks. He helped the team re-establish a presence in the Dominican Republic, running a new complex there from '10-12 before moving up to director of Latin America operations and scouting.
He will work out of the Brewers' year-round complex in Phoenix, where former farm director Reid Nichols was based. The Brewers' new farm director, Tom Flanagan, works out of the offices at Miller Park.
In his new role, Brizuela will have more contact with the Brewers' Minor League coaching staffs, most of which are returning intact for 2016:
• The entire coaching staff at Triple-A Colorado Springs is back for a second straight season. The group consists of manager Rick Sweet, pitching coach Fred Dabney and coach Bob Skube.
• The Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, who advanced to the Southern League Championship Series in their first year of play, will have a new manager with Carlos Subero's promotion to the Major League staff. Guerrero, who managed 18 seasons in the Minor Leagues before serving two years as Craig Counsell's first-base coach in Milwaukee, will head a staff that includes pitching coach Chris Hook and coach Sandy Guerrero, Mike's older brother.
• Joe Ayrault returns for his fifth season as manager of the Class-A Brevard County Manatees with pitching coach David Chavarria and coach Ned Yost IV. New to the staff is another "coach," Edwin Maysonet, who joins the coaching ranks after a 12-year professional playing career that included stints in the Cubs, Astros and Brewers systems. He reached the Majors in 2008 and '09 with the Astros, and he played 30 games for the Brewers in '12.
• At Class A Wisconsin, another former Brewer, Matt Erickson, is back as manager for a sixth season. He will oversee pitching coach Gary Lucas, coach Chuckie Caufield and a new addition, Al LeBoeuf, who is moving up from Rookie-level Arizona. LeBoeuf's specialty is hitting instruction.
• Rookie-level Helena will have an entirely new staff, led by manager Nestor Corredor, who was promoted from rookie Arizona. Brewers assistant pitching coordinator Mark Dewey will double as Helena's pitching coach, while Liu Rodriguez and Reggie Williams instruct the position players.
• There's more double duty at Rookie-level Arizona, where Brewers assistant director of player development Tony Diggs will also manage the Brewers' Arizona League entry and serve as the organization's roving outfield coordinator. Diggs had previously managed the Arizona club from 2008-12, winning a league title in '10. Rolando Valles and Steve Cline will be co-pitching coaches, and former infielder Hainley Statia will serve as coach. Statia just recently retired as a player.
• Victor Estevez received a promotion from coach to manager of the Dominican Summer League Brewers in 2016. He is flanked by pitching coach Geraldo Obispo and returning coaches Luis de los Santos and Joan Abreu. Jose Pena will move from manager to coach.
