Brewers prospect Williams to have tests on elbow

March 8th, 2017

PHOENIX -- Former Brewers second-round Draft pick Devin Williams was undergoing tests Wednesday after experiencing pain in his right elbow during Tuesday's Minor League intrasquad game at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Williams, No. 18 on MLBPipeline.com's list of the top Brewers prospects, was examined by Dr. William Raasch, the team's head physician. If Raasch recommends it, Williams will undergo an MRI scan, general manager David Stearns said.
"We really have no idea whether this is nothing at all, or something more than that," said Stearns, who was at the game when Williams exited. "We tell all of our pitchers at this stage in spring, both in the Majors and Minors, 'If you feel anything, let us know.' So Devin did exactly what he should have. And now we just need to see what it is."
Though he was drafted in the second round, Williams was the Brewers' top pick in 2013 because they had surrendered their first round selection to sign free agent . Williams has a 3.79 ERA and 288 strikeouts in his first 287 professional innings.
Williams fought an injury in each of the past two springs, too. Williams' regular season debut in 2015 was delayed until May 16 because of a forearm flexor strain. In 2016, he didn't pitch until May 12 because of a minor shoulder injury. Williams went on to go 7-5 with a 3.79 ERA in 22 games, 10 starts, between Class A Wisconsin and advanced Class A Brevard County.
