Crew calls up infielder Sardinas, catcher Ashley

MIAMI -- With the Triple-A season in the books, the Brewers added two more players to the big league roster late Monday, recalling infielder Luis Sardinas and purchasing the contract of catcher Nevin Ashley.

Both players are expected to join the team on Tuesday in Miami. Sardinas has already played 20 games in the Majors for Milwaukee this season, but Ashley will be a newcomer. His first appearance will mark his big league debut after parts of 10 seasons in the Minor Leagues.

For Triple-A Colorado Springs, Ashley batted .306 with eight home runs and 61 RBIs in 94 games, entering Monday's season finale. Sardinas batted .221 in his 71 Major League plate appearances and entered Monday with a .283/.320/.361 slash line for Colorado Springs.

Also on Monday, the Brewers cleared two additional 40-man roster spots by outrighting relievers Preston Guilmet and Brandon Kintzler, both of whom appeared in the Major Leagues this season.

Kintzler pitched parts of six seasons for the Brewers, including 135 appearances with a 2.93 ERA from 2013-14. He was on the Major League disabled list from May 29-Aug. 12 with a left knee injury and had been pitching at Colorado Springs since then.

With the combination of moves, the Brewers' 40-man roster stands at 37.
