Final Vote: Give Braun a boost; vote or tweet until 3 CT today

July 6th, 2016

Those expecting a barnstorming tour by 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote candidate Ryan Braun will be disappointed. The Brewers outfielder is letting his 2016 record speak for itself.

Braun is one of five players in the running for the National League's final roster spot, to be decided via online and mobile balloting running through 3 p.m. CT today, and he was in fifth place upon release of the latest voting update on Friday morning. Coverage of the All-Star Game presented by MasterCard begins Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT on FOX.
"Whatever [the Brewers] want to do, I appreciate," Braun said.

But Braun does have some politician in him. Asked about the vote, he said, "Those other four guys really deserve to make the team. I would vote for one of them. I don't know which one, but I would vote for all of them before myself."
Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is leading in the voting, Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb and Braun, who is batting .322 with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and a .912 OPS, is in fifth.
Today, the club's social media apparatus will go into high gear. From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. CT, any tweet that includes a designated player hashtag -- #VoteBraun for Braun -- will be tabulated as part of the official vote total used to determine the winners.
The Brewers have found Final Vote success in the past. Their campaign helped put Geoff Jenkins on the All-Star team in 2003, and Corey Hart in '08. Both, like Braun, were outfielders. Pitcher Chris Capuano was also a Final Vote candidate in '06, and while he didn't win, he did make the NL All-Star team that year as an injury replacement.
Once again, the Brewers' marketing department is running a get-out-the-vote campaign. They distributed hundreds of "Vote Braun" T-shirts on Wednesday, and they launched a series of digital billboards to promote voting. The team also produced campaign-style picket signs being used around town.
