PHOENIX -- Chase Anderson pitched two scoreless innings in his unofficial Brewers debut and Jonathan Lucroy drove in a run as a Milwaukee split squad edged the Cubs, 2-1, on Thursday at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Anderson, acquired in a January trade with the D-backs, struck out a pair and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.
"My body feels good, arm feels good," said Anderson, who appears lined up as the Brewers' No. 5 starter. "That's kind of the main thing as Spring Training begins. It's something to build on."
Cubs starter Travis Wood surrendered a leadoff triple to Brewers shortstop Jonathan Villar and fell into a 1-0 deficit when Rule 5 Draft pick Colin Walsh followed with a sacrifice fly. That was the only damage against Wood, who struck out two and surrendered no more hits in his first two Cactus League innings.
Wood began last season in the Cubs' rotation, but will likely wind up in the bullpen this year. The left-hander prepared this spring as if he would start.

"It's not really a different spring," Wood said. "As far as my mindset, it's the same, and as far as what they've told me, I'm going about it the same way. we'll just see what happens in the end."

Kyle Hendricks, who followed Wood, struck out four of the eight batters he faced in two innings of one-run ball.

"I wasn't expecting that," Hendricks said. "First outing, I was trying to get in rhythm with the game. Sometimes being out there for the first time it can speed up on you. I was just trying to make sure I settled down, making my pitches, getting ahead of guys. It felt pretty good."
Clayton Richard and Rex Brothers each struck out two in an inning of work.
The Cubs scored on Dan Vogelbach's ground-rule double with two outs in the seventh.
Up next for Cubs: Pitching prospect Pierce Johnson will start the Cubs' spring home opener Friday at 2:05 p.m. CT, facing the Angels at Sloan Park in Mesa, Ariz. Johnson was 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA in 16 starts last season at Double-A Tennessee. He was limited at the beginning of 2015 because of a lat injury. The game will be webcast via cubs.com.
Up next for Brewers:Wily Peralta will take the mound when the Brewers host Taijuan Walker and the Mariners at Maryvale Baseball Park on Friday. Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell has yet to announce his pitching plans for the start of the season, but the spring rotation hints at Peralta leading the way, followed by Jimmy Nelson, Matt Garza, Taylor Jungmann and Chase Anderson in that order. Peralta was the Brewers' most valuable pitcher in 2014, when he won 17 games, but was limited to 20 starts last season because of an oblique strain.
