Brown remains day to day with ailing Achilles

NEW YORK -- Phillies interim manager Ryne Sandberg said Domonic Brown is still day to day after he experienced soreness in his right Achilles on Saturday.

Brown left the game against Arizona in the third inning. He pinch-hit in Sunday's game and walked, but was not in the Phillies' starting lineup for their series opener against the Mets at Citi Field on Monday.

Brown made another pinch-hit appearance Monday, popping out in foul ground off third base to end the eighth inning.

Sandberg said the left fielder did some light jogging Monday, but didn't hit before the game, as he still felt some soreness.

"But he's heading in the right direction," Sandberg said. "About half better, maybe."

Brown entered play Monday hitting .275 with 27 home runs and 80 RBIs this season for the Phillies.
