LOS ANGELES -- Before leaving town, Giants manager Bruce Bochy made sure to deliver a heartfelt, respectful farewell to Vin Scully, the legendary Dodgers broadcaster who's retiring at the end of the regular season.
Bochy fondly reminisced about the many times Scully stopped by his office in the visitors' clubhouse. This time, Bochy said he felt "humbled" to return the favor and "honored" to set foot in Scully's booth -- "to see where he does his magic."
Bochy expressed amazement over the sheer length and breadth of Scully's career.
"You appreciate what this man has done and [for] how long," Bochy said. "I was telling him, all my memories that go through my head from coming to a ballpark for 21 years; he's got 67 years of stories."
Bochy summarized Scully's lofty place in the baseball universe by saying, "He's an incredible man who has done so much for the game, not just for Dodgers fans but for all of us."
