Orioles manager Buck Showalter finished third in the American League Manager of the Year Award voting, as chosen by members the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Terry Francona, who guided the Indians to the World Series, won the award, while Rangers manager Jeff Banister finished in second among the finalists, announced Tuesday on MLB Network.

Showalter received 44 points to Banister's 64, while Francona, the only manager named on every ballot, got 128 votes. Ballots from two writers in each league city prior to postseason play are tallied as follows: five points for first place, three points for second place and one point for third place.

Showalter got two first-place votes, nine second-place votes and seven third-place votes. He last won the award in 2014 and is one of only two three-time winners, along with Tony La Russa. Francona took home his first Manager of the Year Award since 2013. 
Red Sox manager John Farrell and Yankees manager Joe Girardi finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. 
The Orioles, a club largely picked to finish in last place, rode a red-hot April to an early AL East lead. Despite an unstable rotation, Showalter guided the Orioles to an 89-73 record and to the AL Wild Card Game, which the O's lost in Toronto.
Showalter has appeared on Manager of the Year ballots in nine of his 18 seasons as a Major League manager.
