Selig, Attanasio help open baseball exhibit
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers owner Mark Attanasio and Major League Baseball Commissioner Emeritus Bud Selig on Wednesday helped open a new baseball exhibit at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee.
The exhibit, "Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American," was unveiled Wednesday at a members-only event, with Attanasio and Selig each delivering remarks. It opens to the public on Sunday and runs through Sept. 7 at the museum, 1360 N. Prospect Ave. in Milwaukee.
Mark and Debbie Attanasio and Bud and Sue Selig are honorary co-chairs of the exhibit.
Besides celebrating well-known Jewish heroes including Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax, the exhibition highlights other baseball pioneers like Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Roberto Clemente and Ichiro Suzuki, as well as baseball's extended family of vendors, team owners, Minor League and amateur players, scouts, broadcasters, writers and fans.
The core of the exhibit is on loan from the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, augmented with artifacts from local organizations and individuals.
