Posey gains on Molina for All-Star starting spot

Buster Posey is closing in on an All-Star starting spot. With 631,799 votes, Posey trails leader Yadier Molina by 62,405 votes among National League catchers.
Posey picked up 192,560 votes in the latest round of NL totals released Wednesday for the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot. Molina and Posey have won the fan vote at catcher for the NL squad in six of the last seven All-Star Games.

The Giants are well represented throughout the ballot with players contending for votes at each position. Posey's vote total leads all San Francisco players, while Brandon Belt is second with 402,271, still trailing only the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo (1,254,404), albeit by a large margin, at first base.

Both Brandon Crawford (358,045) and Hunter Pence (344,441) climbed up the rankings at their respective positions. Crawford moved past Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to third, while Pence moved up a spot to eighth among outfielders. Also represented among the top vote getters are Matt Duffy, who remained at fifth among third basemen with 233,563 votes, and second baseman Joe Panik (267,088), who again came in at fourth at his position.
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 8:59 p.m. PT.
