ST. LOUIS -- Twins outfielder Byron Buxton reported no ill effects after running to test out his fractured left toe before Monday night's game against the Cardinals.
"I tolerate it as much as I can," Buxton said. "I know my limits, know when to back it off a little bit. It's just kind of what's the next plan for us and where do we go from there."
Buxton broke his toe after fouling a ball off his foot in a Minor League rehab game on April 27, while attempting to come back from a disabled-list stint caused by migraines. He hasn't played for the Twins since April 12.
"It was good today," manager Paul Molitor said. "Fairly extensive on the defensive side, I saw him running around out there. I think he was pleased. We're a little worried about the explosiveness and pushing off, and getting to balls in the gap. Tomorrow, if he responds well to what he did today, in addition to doing some hitting during BP, we'll try to have him run the bases. I think that's another hurdle we have to get over before he's ready to play."
Buxton said he only feels the injury when cutting or changing direction. Straight running and hitting are not a problem. He expects to accompany the team to Anaheim on the third leg of a 10-game, 11-day road trip this weekend, and he doesn't think he needs a Minor League rehab assignment.
"I feel like I'm ready to go," Buxton said. "Hit off the machine, step into bullpens, I know it's not the same, but you still get to see pitches, see velo, whatever it takes me to do."
Lynn draws rave reviews
Though he won't pitch in the two-game series against the Cardinals, the trip to Busch Stadium marks Lance Lynn's return to the place he called home for the first six years of his career.
Molitor said Lynn's former manager gave him high praise during a Spring Training discussion.
"Had a nice talk with Tony La Russa about him and he told me [Lynn] was one of his favorite guys in terms of just a teammate, workhorse, never will not take the baseball for you, things that you want to have," Molitor said. "His start here probably wasn't what he wanted, but the last start more indicative to what we think he can do for us."

Lynn earned his first win with the Twins on Saturday, giving up two runs over six innings in an 8-4 victory over the White Sox. His is 1-3 with a 7.28 ERA in six starts this season.
