Cishek returns; Flores, Rienzo to Triple-A

MLB.com Reporter @JoeFrisaro

MIAMI -- Steve Cishek's nearly two-week stint at Double-A Jacksonville is over. After Cishek collected a save for the Suns on Friday night, the Marlins recalled the right-hander as well as reinstated Mat Latos from the disabled list.

The Latos move was expected, as he will start on Saturday against the Rockies at Marlins Park. Bringing back Cishek is a sign the organization is convinced its former closer can once again contribute at the big league level.

To make roster space for Cishek and Latos, right-handers Kendry Flores and Andre Rienzo were optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, where they will join the rotation.

"From all the reports we have, he went down and he worked on exactly what needed to be corrected," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said of Cishek. "The thing about Cishek is he's such a pro. He didn't complain, didn't whine. He went down with the right mindset. He knew he needed to work. We took him out of the spotlight and he responded in the way a true pro would. This team needs Steve Cishek to do what he's capable of doing."

Cishek made five appearances and threw six scoreless innings, including two saves, for the Suns. Before he was optioned, the sidearm-throwing right-hander labored, posting a 1-5 record with a 6.98 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. He was sent down to Double-A on June 1.

He was 3-for-7 in save opportunities for Miami, and A.J. Ramos took over as closer in mid-May.
