KANSAS CITY -- Rays right-hander Jake Odorizzi is ready to re-join the rotation and will start against the Astros on Saturday at Tropicana Field.

Odorizzi, who went on the disabled list on June 9 with a left oblique strain, made his final rehab start on Monday with Class A Advanced Charlotte and held Palm Beach scoreless on two hits and a walk while striking out six in 5 2/3 innings. On Wednesday, he threw a bullpen, and according to Rays manager Kevin Cash, all went well, freeing Odorizzi to start on Saturday.

The right-hander had been in the midst of a stellar season that saw him post nine quality starts in 12 outings. Odorizzi is 4-5 with a 2.47 ERA.

"Huge [lift getting him back]," Cash said. "Just kind of like the [James] Loney lift, getting these guys back. Guys that we penciled in at the start of spring. Odo has already done a lot this season. But I think if you look what him and [Chris Archer] kind of combined to do. Veteran pitchers in our pitching staff, it allows those extra days and extra innings for our relievers not be used."
