Aoki eyes clearance to return to Giants

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants outfielder Nori Aoki was scheduled to fly to Pittsburgh Wednesday to see a concussion specialist in an attempt to gain clearance to play, manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.

Aoki has resumed baseball activities. He took about 25 swings off a tee Monday and played catch before Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

"He took some swings yesterday," Bochy said. "We just want to have one more evaluation with him in Pittsburgh there and then we can ramp it up a little bit."

The Giants skipper did not rule out a possible return to the field before season's end for the team's primary leadoff hitter.

"He feels good," Bochy said of Aoki. "I think this is more to maybe get cleared and possibly have him pinch-hit here or something soon."

Aoki hit .287 with five home runs and 26 RBIs before suffering the head injury in early August.
