Dodgers claim Peter O'Brien

The Los Angeles Dodgers today claimed outfielder Peter O'Brien from the Texas Rangers and designated left-handed pitcher Jason Wheeler for assignment. O'Brien will be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

O'Brien, 26, has appeared in 48 Triple-A games this season for Round Rock (Texas), Louisville (Cincinnati) and Omaha (Royals), batting a combined .167 (31-for-186) with six homers, five doubles and a triple. O'Brien, who was designated for assignment earlier this week, has appeared in 36 career Major League games, all for Arizona in 2015 and 2016. The Florida native has hit .176 (13-for-74) with six homers and 12 RBI in his big league career while appearing in 20 games on defense, all in left field.

The 6'4, 235-lb, right-handed hitter was originally the Yankees' second-round selection in 2012 out of Miami (Fl.) and made his Major League debut vs. the Dodgers at Chase Field in 2015, delivering a pinch-hit single in his first-career at-bat. O'Brien has hit 122 home runs in 561 career minor league games over six seasons while appearing on defense at five different positions (catcher, first base, third base, left field and right field).

Wheeler was acquired in a trade with Minnesota on June 3 and appeared in three games (one start) for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers.
