The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting.
6th Round: Cody Bolton, RHP, 6-3/185, Tracy (CA) High School, Assigned to GCL Pirates - Recorded 97 strikeouts in 68 innings of work as a senior at Tracy High School ... Was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Second-Team All-American and California All-Region First-Team selection ... Was named the Most Valuable Pitcher in the Tri City Athletic League in 2017 ... Compiled a 24-6 record, 1.42 ERA and 201 strikeouts in his career at Tracy ... Became the third Tracy High school player to be drafted into professional baseball.
14th Round: Chris Sharpe, OF, 6-1/195, Univ. of Massachusetts-Lowell, Assigned to West Virginia Black Bears - Hit .338 (44-for-130) with 16 doubles, seven home runs, 25 RBI, a .432 on-base percentage and .685 slugging percentage in 33 games as a sophomore at UMass Lowell in 2017 ... Earned New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-New England Second-Team honors in 2017 ... Became the 21st player in UMass Lowell history to be selected in the Draft ... Became the highest River Hawk to be drafted since Jack Leathersich was picked in the fifth round of the 2011 Draft.
31st Round: Jesse Medrano, INF, 5-11/200, Fresno State University, Assigned to GCL Pirates - Hit .346 (84-for-243) with 19 doubles, seven home runs and 45 RBI in 60 games in 2017 with Fresno State ... Was a First-Team All-Mountain West selection as a senior this season ... Recorded 27 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games in the 2017 season.
The Pirates have now signed a total of 34 players from the 2017 Draft.
